As you may know, the stalwart "incandescent light bulb" is going to become "illegal", starting next January (2012).  Up until now, all we have had to replace them are the Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) that are really terrible.  Sure, they use less electricity, but they have toxic mercury in them, they don't last as long as they are supposed to, and many people have been burned by the high levels of UV they put out.

 

Finally, a real replacement for the 100-watt light bulb is making its debut.  Its made from LEDs.  If you've been watching this technology advance, I know you realize that no LED product has been available that can produce enough light to light up your home yet.  But all of that is changing.  You may not know this, but manufacturers are already making STREET LIGHTS with LEDs. A simple search for "led street lights" on Google Images brings up 22 million pictures.

 

The point is, LEDs are getting brighter every year.  As for the 100-watt light bulb replacement, the advanced LED bulbs are still pretty expensive, but prices will be coming down soon. Most wind generators leave me cold.  I think most designs are just plain junk.  But here is something worth looking at.  This breakthrough design is by a company called WindTronics.  They have literally turned the wind turbine inside out.  These are small-scale wind generators that can start producing energy in a 1 MPH wind!  Instead of generating electricity at the axle where the speed is the slowest, it generates electricity around the outer circumference of the blades.  Of course, this is nothing new for people familiar with the Bedini Energizers, but it does seem to be a fairly new concept for wind generators.  Do you want to learn more, check out this link: WindTronics
